The session
The rides, not the hour bobbing in the water.
Sitting in the lineup waiting for a set or grinding back out through the white water should never blur your wave count. KnotNow separates wave-riding from paddling:
- Waves caught Your exact wave count, total time on waves, and wave time calculated as a percentage of your total water time.
- Longest ride Distance in metres and ride duration in seconds, alongside the average length and time of your best five waves.
- Top speed Your peak 2-second speed burst on the face. Every individual wave also displays its own top speed.
- Flow A single, objective score out of 100 assessing how cleanly the waves were linked and ridden across the session.
- Consistency Unlocked as soon as you catch three waves, showing how uniform your rides were in both length and speed.
- Paddle distance All the paddling between sets, logged as its own total and kept off your wave statistics.
- Turns on the wave Real manoeuvre detection: Left, Right, Bottom turn, Top turn, and Cutback. No vague, irrelevant degree numbers.
- Wipeouts Total wipeout count and your wipeout rate per hour, kept separate from foiling crashes.
Each wave is logged with duration, distance, peak speed, flow score, and ride direction. Follow your wave count, longest rides, and flow scores across the entire season in the logbook.
Foil surf
A downwind swell is not a set wave.
Prone foiling, foil assist, and SUP foiling are built differently to standard surfing. KnotNow gives you the full wave-riding breakdown, plus your exact time on foil during those waves.
A long open-water downwind run and a point-break wave session will never be forced into the same report. Foil-specific wipeouts stay here, while flatwater and high-speed race crashes live on the dedicated foiling screens.

Check the water before you walk down.
Know your window before you wax your board. Live wind, swell, tide times, and UK storm overflow sewage alerts sit right in the forecast tab, inside the exact same account as your session logbook.
Questions
Which wave sports does KnotNow log?
Surfing, SUP surfing, bodyboarding, and foiling wave disciplines including prone foil, foil assist, and SUP foil. Every ride tracks duration, distance, peak speed, flow, and direction.
Does the paddle back count as wave time?
No. Wave time and wave distance are strictly separated from paddling distance. You will also see wave time displayed as a percentage of your total water time.
What counts as a wipeout in KnotNow?
Wipeouts are tracked during wave sessions alongside your wipeout rate per hour. They are kept distinct from high-speed foiling crashes, which belong to flatwater or wind foiling screens.
What turns does KnotNow detect on a wave?
The app detects and classifies actual turns: Left, Right, Bottom turn, Top turn, and Cutback. It does not clutter the screen with arbitrary carve angles in degrees. Flow provides an overall riding score, and Consistency appears as soon as you have caught at least three waves.
