Paddle telemetry
The numbers that drive your glide.
Connect your current watch and let KnotNow extract the true mechanics behind your stroke.
- Cadence (SPM) Strokes per minute mapped continuously across your route, tracking your peak stroke rate alongside your session average.
- Distance per stroke (DPS) Metres of forward glide squeezed out of every single blade entry, including your personal best on the day.
- Strokes per 100 m A clean, instant diagnostic for paddling efficiency. Compare your best stretch against your average to see when fatigue creep sets in.
- SWOLF efficiency Stroke rate and split pace combined into one clear metric, balancing physical effort directly against forward output.
- 500 m split pace The true benchmark for paddle pacing. Displays your moving split, average pace, overall moving pace, and fastest leg.
- Total strokes The hard physical work you put into the session, not a vanity calorie calculation.
If your watch file records heart rate, it plots directly on the same timeline as your speed and stroke cadence. Scrub back and forth across the trace and watch the cursor move along your route map in real time.
Sport mapping
SUP, surf, or foil - kept separate.
Tag your session as SUP, SUP Surf, or SUP Foil, and KnotNow sorts the rest. Your wave counts never get mixed up with distance touring, and flatwater paddles never get cluttered with foil stats.
- The right screen every time Foil SUP shows you the foiling stats you love, while SUP surfing automatically switches to wave-riding analysis.
- Kayak capsizes Kayak sessions track capsizes on their own line: total count, the hardest hit, and your capsize rate per hour.
Questions
What are distance per stroke, SWOLF and 500-metre pace?
Strokes per minute (cadence along your route with peak and average), distance per stroke with your single best glide, strokes per 100 metres, total strokes, SWOLF efficiency, and pace per 500 metres. Average pace, moving pace, and your fastest leg are also tracked.
Does a SUP session show foil flight time?
No. Standard SUP, SUP surfing, and kayak outings drop the foiling and sailing tools completely. Foil SUP stays with the dedicated foiling sports. If your file records heart rate, that timeline displays alongside your paddle metrics.
My watch labels my paddle as something generic. Will KnotNow guess?
KnotNow never assumes. You can set the sport on the session, or map a generic watch profile once so future syncs file straight to SUP or kayak. If an imported Strava title mentions wing or foil, KnotNow can map it to wing foiling automatically, but it will never turn a generic workout into a paddle without your say.
Are kayak capsizes counted?
Yes. Kayaks and non-foiling dinghies include capsize tracking: total count, the hardest roll, and your rate per hour. Wave wipeouts remain on their own separate screen for surf sessions.
