Tracking Sailing & Wing Foiling on Your Polar Watch: How to Get VMG, Foil Stats & Turn Analysis with KnotNow

Polar

Polar watches provide incredible heart rate monitoring and precise GPS recording. However, standard multisport profiles can’t evaluate whether an upwind leg was efficient, calculate Velocity Made Good (VMG), or break down the quality of a wing foil gybe.

With the new Polar × KnotNow integration, you can sync your Polar workouts into KnotNow for technical wind-sports analysis.

How to sync your Polar watch to KnotNow

  1. Launch KnotNow on iOS, Android, or the web.
  2. Open account settings and tap Connect Polar.
  3. Sign in with Polar to authorize the connection.

Sync your watch with Polar first, then tap Import Workouts. KnotNow loads your latest water sessions from the last 30 days. Automatic background sync isn’t on yet, so tap import when you want the newest rides.

What KnotNow adds to your Polar data

Instead of a basic GPS loop and average heart rate, your Polar activity in KnotNow shows:

  • VMG and upwind performance. True Velocity Made Good and upwind angles across every leg.
  • Turn smoothness and exit speed. Every tack and gybe, with speed readouts, recovery, and a single Smoothness Score.
  • Foil flight tracker. Time and distance on foil, flight percentage, and port versus starboard.
  • Speed and kit testing. Time and distance splits, with speed mapped to wind angle, so a kit change or a different breeze shows up in the track.
  • Shoreline walk tracking. For early upwind sessions, the walk-back distance — and how it shrinks.
