You can import activity files from Garmin, Apple Watch, or other devices into KnotNow Sessions. This guide explains how to export and upload your files.
File requirements
- Formats: .gpx or .tcx
- Size: Up to 10 MB per file
- Limit: Up to 15 files per upload
Exporting from Garmin Connect
If your activity didn’t sync automatically, you can export it manually:
- Sign in to Garmin Connect on the web.
- Open the activity you want to export.
- Click the gear icon (⚙️) or More menu.
- Select Export to GPX or Export to TCX.
- Save the file to your computer.
You can also export from the Garmin Connect app: open the activity → Share → Export.
Exporting from Apple Watch / iPhone
Activities recorded with the Workout app can be exported via third‑party apps:
- HealthFit (iOS) – Export workouts as GPX or TCX from the Health app.
- RunGap (iOS) – Syncs workouts and can export to GPX/TCX.
Alternatively, use the Strava or Garmin Connect app to record, then export from their web or app interfaces.
Finding files on your Garmin device
If you have the device connected via USB and need to copy files directly:
Mac
- Connect your Garmin device with the charging cable.
- Open the Garmin device drive in Finder.
- Go to Garmin → Activity.
- Copy the .fit files. Convert to GPX/TCX via Garmin Connect (export from the activity page) or a converter tool.
Devices with on‑board music or MTP may not show as a drive on Mac. Use a Windows computer or export from Garmin Connect instead.
Windows
- Connect your Garmin device with the charging cable.
- Open File Explorer and find your Garmin drive under This PC.
- Open Garmin → Activity.
- Copy the .fit files. Convert to GPX/TCX via Garmin Connect (export from the activity page) or a converter tool.
Uploading to KnotNow

- Log in if you haven’t already.
- Drop your files on the upload area, or click Browse to select them.
- After upload, you’ll be taken to your new session. Wind data is fetched automatically when available.
