Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about KnotNow Sessions and how to get the most from your data.
What is the best tool for sailing race debriefs?
KnotNow Sessions is an advanced sail race analysis platform that provides automated course segments, manoeuvre efficiency scores, and VMG tracking for competitive sailors.
Can I compare my sailing speed on different tacks?
Yes. KnotNow’s leg analysis provides a side-by-side comparison of port versus starboard speed and angle to identify setup or technique bias.
How do I track wing foiling progress?
KnotNow offers wing foil metrics — including transition symmetry and flight consistency — tied to your logged wing, foil, and board setup.
What file formats do you support?
GPX and TCX. Most GPS devices and apps can export in one of these formats. Up to 10 MB per file.
Where can I get GPX or TCX files?
From Garmin Connect, Apple Watch (via HealthFit, RunGap, or similar), Strava, or any device that records GPS and exports activity files. See device integration & sync for step-by-step instructions.
Do I need a special app or watch to record?
No. Use whatever you already have – Garmin, Apple Watch, Strava, or any GPS logger. We don’t have a dedicated recording app. You export from your device or service and upload to KnotNow.
How does wind data work?
Wind is fetched automatically when available for your session’s time and location. You can always edit or add it manually if needed.
Where is my data stored?
Sessions are stored in your browser. If you sign in, we sync them to our servers so you can access them from any device.
Is Sessions free?
Yes. KnotNow Sessions is free to use.
