Negatives & Hazards

Things to watch

Steel Outflow Pipe. Netley Mud. Shipping & Wash. Shallow Shelf.

The Steel Outflow Pipe is located just south of the main slipway (marked by a yellow cross marker). It can be submerged at high tide - always launch/land at a right angle to the slipway to avoid clipping your foil. The "Netley Mud" is famous and unforgiving at low tide. Avoid launching or landing once the water has retreated past the shingle/sand shelf. Large container ships and cruise liners in the main channel create a significant "displacement wash." Expect rolling swells to arrive several minutes after a ship passes. The depth drops abruptly ~300m out. Monitor your mast depth when the tide is ebbing.
