It's a high-energy, versatile location that caters to everyone from flat-water speed enthusiasts at low tide to wave-jumpers when the wind and tide conspire to create a steep Solent chop. The spot is supported by the Hill Head Sailing Club (HHSC), a family-friendly, member-run club with a long history of promoting watersports. Negatives & Hazards

Things to watch

The Sandbar. Sharp Shingle & Shells. Groynes. Water Quality.

There is a notable sandbar directly opposite the main car park. At mid-to-low tide, it can be shallow enough to catapult a foiler - keep a keen eye on your depth. The beach and seabed are a mix of stones and sharp shells. Wetsuit boots are highly recommended, especially for beginners who are spending time on their feet. Wooden groynes line the beach; while visible at low tide, they can be a hidden hazard at high spring tides. Water quality is variable - check the water quality alerts on this page, especially after heavy rainfall, as there are nearby outfalls.
