one of the most stunning locations on the Isle of Wight, framed by high chalk cliffs and the "Stag" and "Mermaid" rocks.
It is a high-performance venue for winging, windsurfing, and sailing. For wing foilers, the bay offers deep water and a clean South-Westerly wind that provides excellent swell for riding. The community is small and consists of highly skilled local riders. The advantage of Freshwater is the spectacular beauty and the quality of the wave. The main negative is the "consequence" of the spot; with rocks on both sides and high cliffs, it is not a place for beginners. If you drift downwind, your options are limited. Ideal Wind: SW (Cleanly into the bay) Viable Wind: S, SSW, SW, WSW, W
SW, W, S (High cliff shelter; SW side-on)
15-25 knots is the sweet spot for most; 4-5m wings in lighter air, switching to 3m wings when it exceeds 28 knots.
Best at Mid Tide (+/- 2 hrs) for depth and safer launching over the shingle. Access is restricted at other tidal states.
