the "wilder" sibling to West Wittering. Lacking the sheltered lagoon of its neighbour, it offers a raw, open-sea experience.
It is a premier "bump and jump" and wave spot, favoured by intermediate and advanced riders who want to escape the more structured environment of the West Wittering club. The waves here are often cleaner than at West Wittering, especially at mid-tide. It is a classic South Coast beach where the wind is often side-shore, allowing for long reaches parallel to the breaking waves.
SW, W, S (WSW is best for cross-shore riding)
15-25 knots is the sweet spot for most; 4-5m wings in lighter air, switching to 3m wings when it exceeds 28 knots.
Best at Mid-Tide (High Tide shore dump is aggressive)

Overall
A reliable wave spot that offers a more mellow alternative to the West Wittering crowds.
Vibe & Crowds
Friendly and active. A large community of local riders with a high-energy vibe. High. Very popular with surfers and wind-riders. Can be busy on good days.
Suitable For
The rolling swell is great for progression, but the groynes require awareness.
Negatives & Hazards
Submerged Groynes. Strong Long-Shore Drift. Aggressive Shore Dump.
Submerged groynes require careful navigation - always check conditions and be aware of their positions. Strong long-shore drift can move you quickly along the beach - stay aware of your position. At High Tide, the shingle shore dump is aggressive - experts only. The raw, open-sea experience requires respect for the conditions.
East Wittering
Open in Google MapsPublic parking at the end of Shore Road (very limited); launch directly from the shingle. Just behind the beach is a vibrant village centre with excellent pubs and cafes for post-session "debriefs."
Shingle beach. Submerged groynes. Steep shingle at high tide creating aggressive shore dump.
Year round - best with SW or W winds
