a stunning coastal town with a variety of winging and windsurfing options nearby, most notably Killahoey Beach.
It is a beautiful, sheltered bay that offers flatter water than the more exposed Donegal beaches, making it a favorite for "freeride" winging and those practicing transitions. The white sand and turquoise water create a picturesque setting for a session. The community is very active, with local surf schools and clubs providing a great base for water sports. The advantage of Dunfanaghy is the protection from the largest Atlantic swells, providing a more manageable sea state for intermediate wing foilers. The town itself is a vibrant hub with great post-session facilities. The negative is the tidal range; at low tide, the water can be a long walk across the sand, and some sections can be shallow for foils. Ideal Wind: NW, N (Funnels into the bay) Viable Wind: WNW, NW, NNW, N, NNE, NE
NW, N, W (Best for Atlantic freeride/waves)
15-25 knots is the sweet spot for most; 4-5m wings in lighter air, switching to 3m wings when it exceeds 28 knots.
Best at High Tide (+/- 2 hrs) for depth within the bay and channel navigation. Although it is sailable at all tides.
