Dooey Beach Winging Guide

Winging, Sailing & Windsurfing Forecast

Loading forecast data...

a massive, three-mile stretch of golden sand in Gweebarra Bay.

It is widely considered one of the best locations in Ireland for learning wave-winging because the waves are often organized, mellow, and break over a flat sandy bottom. This makes it far less intimidating than the rocky reefs found elsewhere in Donegal. The winging community here is growing, often sharing the vast space with surfers and windsurfers. The benefit of Dooey is the space; even on the busiest days, you can find a private peak to practice your foil-surfing. The wind is often accelerated by the bay's topography, providing clean, steady power for your session. The negative is the walk; at low tide, the beach is enormous, and carrying a wing and foil across the sand can be a workout in itself. Ideal Wind: W, NW (Perfectly aligned with the bay) Viable Wind: SW, WSW, W, WNW, NW
