Culdaff Winging Guide

Winging, Sailing & Windsurfing Forecast

a spectacular north-facing sandy bay on the Inishowen Peninsula.

It is widely regarded by the Irish winging and windsurfing community as a premier wave destination when the Atlantic groundswell is running. The bay is framed by dramatic rocky headlands that provide a sense of isolation and raw beauty, attracting wing foilers who enjoy riding clean, organized swell in crystal-clear water. The benefit of Culdaff is its ability to catch even small Northerly swells that might miss other Donegal beaches. While it is primarily a surfing and wave-riding spot, the large sandy area makes it a viable training ground for intermediate wing foilers on lighter days. The local sailing and coastal community is very welcoming, though the water can be significantly colder than southern Irish spots, so thick rubber is a year-round requirement. The main negative is the exposure; in a full Northerly gale, the shore dump can be punishing for gear and difficult to navigate. However, for those looking for a high-performance Atlantic session, Culdaff is hard to beat. Ideal Wind: NW, N (Clean onshore swell) Viable Wind: WNW, NW, NNW, N, NNE, NE
